Leanne Ashworth was born and raised in Toronto and it was after relocating to Calgary she discovered a love for clay while studying sculpture at the Alberta University of the Arts. She was drawn to the vibrant cultural scene in Tiohtià:ke/ Montreal and after a visit, relocated and completed her studies at Concordia University, where she lives and works to this day.
Her studies allowed Ashworth to branch out and develop skills in screen printing, and digital art. Recently, she returned to ceramics, focusing on the meditative nature of the wheel throwing process. Reinterpreting les arts de la table is her current focus. Her work explores surface decoration and ornamentation on everyday tableware forms. Some of her glaze experiments hint at landscapes from her travels or while others are more abstracted paintings where the gesture and the layering process is the focus.
