As an expat, Denise Buisman Pilger (the Artist Abroad) has called Amsterdam, Fort Worth, Montréal and Nagoya home. Combining her love of photography, painting and travel, her urban, hand layered, mixed media paintings capture the heart and soul of cities and cultures around the world. Denise’s work evokes memories and inspiration and reconnects you to the beauty of the world.
Denise’s art career officially started in 2010 however, her career as a graphic designer and art director before that are aesthetically and technically reflected in her current bodies of work, most notably Traveling the World and World on Washi. Through the universal language of art, she aspires to bridge cultural and language barriers and make the world into a place where all people feel connected to one another.
Over the years Denise’s work has been shown in exhibitions in North America, Europe and Asia including 2011 Salon de la Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts at the Carrousel du Louvre in Paris, both the Artist Project and Outdoor Art Exhibition in Toronto, the Toyota Municipal Museum of Art and galleries in New York, Montréal, Ottawa, Toronto, Nagoya, Okazaki and Gifu.
